Lyme Disease
I was debilitated with Lyme Disease in 1983 and have recovered. I have two daughters who were diagnosed in 2012 and have since recovered. I attended the 2012 Annual Conference of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases (ILADS) conference and consider myself a Lyme Literate clinician. If you are struggling with Lyme or a potential Lyme diagnosis, I will do my best to counsel and support you. I am not a physician and do understand my clinical limits and when to refer, but emotional support is often needed.
Lyme is a mischievous disease that masquerades as many physical ailments and can often (but not always) create temporary changes in the brain causing neuropsychological effects such as anxiety and depression. Because of this, if you have anxiety (generalized, OCD, panic attacks, etc), depression, sleep or behavior changes, and have a history of exposure to ticks, it is important you speak with a Lyme literate clinician who can help you with what we call “differential diagnosis”. In other words, are your symptoms caused by life stressors, or is there a possible biological cause (bacteria from tick-borne illness) in which case counseling treatment can be tailored to be more specific and supportive.
